We recently made a donation to the Listowel Memorial Hospital Foundation—because keeping great healthcare close to home just makes sense.
From stitches to checkups (and everything in between), this hospital is there when we need it most. And now, we’re doing our part to help make sure it stays strong, well-equipped, and ready for anything.
It’s our way of saying thanks to the incredible staff, volunteers, and everyday heroes who keep Listowel and surrounding area healthy.
Here’s to hometown care, community spirit, and lending a helping hand. 💙🙌

We made a donation to the Mount Forest Louise Marshall Hospital Foundation—because supporting local healthcare is always a win.
Whether it’s a broken bone, a flu bug, or just peace of mind, this hospital is here for us. And now, we’re doing our part to be there for them. Our contribution helps fund life-saving equipment and care, right where we live.
From hockey goal donations to Lions Club bingo jackpots, it’s clear: this community shows up—and we’re proud to be part of that team.
Let’s keep building strong, healthy roots in Mount Forest.

At Wightman, community isn’t just part of what we do—it’s who we are. That’s why we’re proud to support the Hanover & District Hospital Foundation (HDHF) and the amazing work they’re doing to keep our community healthy, supported, and thriving.
Let’s face it: hospitals are the heart of our towns. And when you need care, you want to know your local hospital has the tools and support it needs to deliver. That’s where the HDHF comes in—raising critical funds to keep equipment up to date and care close to home.
Did you know? Patient visits to Hanover & District Hospital are up 31% from last year! But while the need has grown, government funding hasn’t. That means support from community sponsors (like us!) makes a big difference.
From funding vital medical equipment to creating healing spaces like the beautiful Garden of Fond Memories, the Foundation is doing incredible work—and we’re honoured to help.
We encourage our fellow businesses and families in the area to get involved too. Whether it’s donating, volunteering, or showing up for one of HDHF’s awesome events, every bit helps support the people who care for us when we need it most.

We’re thrilled to share that our organization has made a meaningful donation to the Headwaters Health Care Foundation, reinforcing our commitment to enhancing healthcare in our community.
The Headwaters Health Care Foundation plays a pivotal role in funding essential medical equipment and technology for the Headwaters Health Care Centre. Recognizing that nearly 100% of hospital equipment and technology is funded through community support, the Foundation ensures that patients receive the best care with the most advanced tools available.
This year, our sponsorship initiatives are centered around bolstering healthcare services in our communities. By supporting the Foundation, we’re contributing to vital projects like the Smart Headwaters campaign—a transformative $18 million fundraising effort aimed at acquiring a cutting-edge MRI machine and other vital medical technology to elevate patient care within our community.
We believe that investing in local healthcare not only improves patient outcomes but also strengthens the fabric of our community. We’re proud to stand alongside the Headwaters Health Care Foundation in their mission to provide exceptional care close to home.

We’re all about keeping our communities connected—and that goes far beyond internet and phone lines. We’re proud to be a long-time sponsor and partner of the Centre Wellington Swim to Survive program, an initiative that’s helping local kids build confidence and life-saving skills in the water.
Every year, hundreds of Grade 3 and Grade 7 students across Centre Wellington take part in Swim to Survive lessons. They learn how to roll into deep water, tread for one minute, and swim 50 metres. These might sound like simple steps, but they’re powerful, proven techniques that can truly save lives.
For us, sponsoring this program is more than just a feel-good moment. It’s a commitment to safety, education, and accessibility. Many families in our area don’t have regular access to swimming lessons, so the fact that this program includes transportation and full support for students makes it all the more meaningful.
We want to encourage all families in Centre Wellington to take advantage of this amazing opportunity. If your child is in Grade 3 or Grade 7, be sure to look out for information from your school—and sign them up when the time comes! It’s fun, active, and most importantly, it could one day make all the difference.
From our family to yours, thank you for letting Wightman be a part of something that matters.
Let’s keep making waves—together.
You deserve to be heard.

What is Fiber-Optic Internet?
Wightman is bringing fiber-optic technology to your town and you’re wondering just what IS fiber internet, and why should you connect to it? Fiber-optic internet is state of the art, future proof technology, which is ideal for homes and businesses that require a fast, reliable internet connection, that is going to meet their ever day demands.
How is Fiber different from other forms of internet?
Fibre technology uses light delivered through a fiber glass core to transmit services to your home. Because of this delivery method, fibre provides a connection that is more reliable, can support much higher speeds, is less susceptible to the effects of weather, and able to handle periods of high internet usage across multiple users.
Fiber internet is dramatically different from other internet connection types which you may have experienced in the past. Here is some information on other delivery methods you may have previously experienced.
Dial-up internet
Dial-up, which is far less common than it was 20 years ago, utilizes existing telephone lines, which are usually made of copper. Dial-up uses the audible frequency of the landline, which is why you hear a series of beeps and noises when it connects. Dial-up and Telephone services share the same line which creates an environment where you can’t use both at the same time forcing you to always choose one or the other.
The average speed of dial-up connections is about 56 Kbps (that’s about 0.05 Mbps) for downloading and uploading.
DSL internet lines
DSL (digital subscriber line) internet also uses telephone lines to transmit data. But in contrast to dial-up, DSL uses inaudible frequencies, so it doesn’t compete with your voice phone service meaning you can be on the phone and surfing the web at the same time.
Speeds are dependent on your proximity to the DSL main distribution point. The closer you are the faster your service will be until you a reach a point where the service simply can’t be transmitted across that distance. DSL internet is also vulnerable to the effects of weather, especially wet rainy conditions, which can impact the speed and consistency of your connection even when you are very close to the distribution point.
Cable internet
Cable internet uses the same technology as your cable TV service uses, known as “coaxial cable.”
Speeds for cable internet can vary widely typically maxing out at 940 Mbps for downloading and up to 50 Mbps for uploading. The interesting fact with cable internet is that you often have many users on the same shared connection. Meaning, the more people using the service during peak times will create noticeable speed decreases for those on that shared connection.
Is Fiber internet really the better choice?
Fibre internet connections will allow for download and upload speeds of up to 1gig! The faster speed offered by fiber internet makes it an excellent choice for homes with many devices and users, gamers, people working from home, and businesses. With speeds of up to 1 gig you could download a 2 hour movie in as little as 40 seconds!
Fibre- optic technology is not as prone to outages as other connection types because it does not require a power source, remember it uses light to transmit data and keep you connected. As long as the fiber optic cable stays intact, it can keep delivering your bits and bytes even when the lights are out, or the weather is wet and stormy.
Have you ever noticed that your internet speed gets slow during times of high usage? This is because some Internet providers use “throttling” to prevent outages during high traffic hours. At peak times, your ISP may lower your speed from 100 Mbps to 20 or lower to ration their service. Fiber optic internet speed doesn’t need to throttle, because it’s less susceptible to overload.

September 11, 2021 Community Involvement
On September 11, 2021, Wightman Creative Designer & Marketing Coordinator, Nelia Ricardo-Wodiany presented the Arthur Lions with a donation of $1,000 for the new Skateboard and BMX Park project. We’re proud to be a part of the Arthur community and happy to support the fundraising efforts for this project. Pictured are Arthur Lion, Al Rawlins Secretary, Nelia Ricardo-Wodiany from Wightman and the kids with their families that have been actively fundraising.
Wightman is a local and family-owned company, serving Arthur with internet and phone since 2015, and recently, Wightman has constructed Fibre to the Home, a powerful communications infrastructure in Arthur. The kids have been working hard to raise funds so; it was heart warming to see their reaction as we surprised them with our donation to help them achieve their fundraising goal.
