Our History

Our family has been farming in Canada since 1837 and on the current home farm near Teeswater since 1866. Up to our grandfather’s generation we pursued mixed farming. From the 1950s we specialized in beef farming and since 2002 we have been focused on growing high quality timothy/alfalfa hay for the horse industry, with a special focus on the Florida market.

Award Winning Quality

Over the generations, the McKague’s have won many local, national and international prizes for their crops including at the 1933 World’s Grain Exhibition and at the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto during the 1920s and 1930s.

Enriching our Rural Community

Our family has also been committed to supporting our community and rural lifestyle. Teeswater is home to the oldest creamery in Canada, founded in 1875. For the last five generations, family members have served on the board of the Teeswater Rural Fair, which was founded in 1855.
